Wetlands and Bio-swales
Start To Finish designs for function as well as beauty. An example of this is wetland landscaping, it is the blending of necessity with nature. Wetlands act as sponges to hold water for long periods of time, during which it is purified by flora and fauna. Wetlands also prevent flooding and are important in low lying areas.
Bio-swales slow storm-water, filter sediment, and cool runoff. Little water infiltrates the Bio-swale but it is an important tool for reducing erosion and flooding. Rain gardens are commonly placed at low points to collect storm-water and can be a beautiful garden option.
